RESUMO

Melastomataceae has abundant morphological diversity with high economic and ornamental merit in Myrtales. The phylogenetic position of Myrtales is still contested. Here, we report the chromosome-level genome assembly of Melastoma dodecandrum in Melastomataceae. The assembled genome size is 299.81 Mb with a contig N50 value of 3.00 Mb. Genome evolution analysis indicated that M. dodecandrum, Eucalyptus grandis, and Punica granatum were clustered into a clade of Myrtales and formed a sister group with the ancestor of fabids and malvids. We found that M. dodecandrum experienced four whole-genome polyploidization events: the ancient event was shared with most eudicots, one event was shared with Myrtales, and the other two events were unique to M. dodecandrum. Moreover, we identified MADS-box genes and found that the AP1-like genes expanded, and AP3-like genes might have undergone subfunctionalization. The SUAR63-like genes and AG-like genes showed different expression patterns in stamens, which may be associated with heteranthery. In addition, we found that LAZY1-like genes were involved in the negative regulation of stem branching development, which may be related to its creeping features. Our study sheds new light on the evolution of Melastomataceae and Myrtales, which provides a comprehensive genetic resource for future research.

RESUMO

Background: Cancer-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) are regarded to have significant function in most steps during cancer progression. This meta-analysis aims to investigate the accuracy of EVs as a biomarker in cancer diagnosis. Methods: The diagnostic efficacy of EVs for different cancers was assessed using pooled sensitivity and specificity, diagnostic odds ratio (DOR), and overall area under the curve (AUC) of the summary receiver operating characteristic (SROC). The positive likelihood ratio (PLR) and negative likelihood ratio (NLR) were verified to estimate the diagnostic efficacy of EV at a clinical level. Results: In all, 6,183 cancer patients and 2,437 healthy controls from 75 eligible studies reported in 42 publications were included in the study. The overall pooled sensitivity, specificity, PLR, NLR, and DOR were 0.62 (95% CI: 0.60-0.63), 0.76 (95% CI: 0.75-0.78), 3.07 (95% CI: 2.52-3.75), 0.34 (95% CI: 0.28-0.41), and 10.98 (95% CI: 7.53-16.00), respectively. Similarly, the AUC of the SROC was 0.88, indicating a high conservation of EVs as an early diagnostic marker. Furthermore, subgroup analysis suggested that the use of small EVs as a biomarker was more accurate in serum-based samples of nervous system cancer (p < 0.001). As a result, ultracentrifugation and quantification and size determination methods, such as Western blotting and ELISA were the most reliable identification methods for EV detection. We also indicated that increased secretion of EVs made them a capable biomarker for diagnosing cancer in elderly European individuals. Conclusions: Our study provides evidence that EVs are a promising non-invasive biomarker for cancer diagnosis. Well-designed cohort studies should be conducted to warrant the clinical diagnostic value of EVs.

RESUMO

Copper nanocubes with average sizes of 82, 95, and 108 nm have been synthesized in an aqueous mixture of cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) surfactant, copper acetate, and sodium ascorbate reductant heated at 100 °C for 40 min. Copper nanowires with an average length of 25 µm can also be prepared this way by simply increasing the volume of sodium ascorbate introduced. Small shifts in the plasmonic absorption band positions with tunable particle sizes have been observed. The copper nanocubes were employed to catalyze hydroboration of phenylacetylene and various substituted aryl alkynes with 100 % (E)-product selectivity and 82-95 % product yields. The copper nanocubes are cheap to make and should catalyze a broad scope of organic coupling reactions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Cimicifuga racemosa is one of the herbs used for the treatment of climacteric syndrome, and it has been cited as an alternative therapy to estrogen. Apart from hectic fevers, dyspareunia and so on, dry mouth also increase significantly after menopause. It has not yet been reported whether C. racemosa has any impact on the sublingual gland, which may relate to dry mouth. In an attempt to determine this, we have compared the effects of estrogen and C. racemosa on the sublingual gland of ovariectomized rats. RESULTS: HE staining showed that the acinar cell area had contracted and that the intercellular spaces were broadened in the OVX (ovariectomized rats) group, while treatment with estradiol (E2) and iCR (isopropanolic extract of C. racemosa) improved these lesions. Transmission electron microscopy showed that rough endoplasmic reticulum expansion in mucous and serous acinar epithelial cells and apoptotic cells was more commonly seen in the OVX group than in the SHAM (sham-operated rats) group. Mitochondria and plasma membrane infolding lesions in the striated ducts were also observed. These lesions were alleviated by both treatments. It is of note that, in the OVX + iCR group, the volume of mitochondria in the striated duct was larger than in other groups. Immunohistochemical staining showed that the ratio of caspase-3 positive cells was significantly increased in the acinar cells of the OVX group compared with the SHAM group (p < 0.05); and the MA (mean absorbance) of caspase-3 in the striated ducts also increased (p < 0.05). Estradiol decreased the ratio of caspase-3 positive cells and the MA of caspase-3 in striated ducts significantly (p < 0.05). ICR also reduced the ratio of caspase-3 positive cells and the MA in the striated ducts (p < 0.05), but the reduction of the MA in striated ducts was inferior to that of the OVX + E2 group (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Both estradiol and iCR can inhibit subcellular structural damage, and down-regulate the expression of caspase-3 caused by ovariectomy, but their effects were not identical, suggesting that both drugs confer a protective effect on the sublingual gland of ovariectomized rats, but that the specific location and mechanism of action producing these effects were different.

RESUMO

Based on Cd(NO3)2·4H2O and 4,4'-((5-carboxy-1,3-phenylene)bis(oxy))dibenzoic acid (H3cpbda), two isomeric coordination polymers, {[Cd1.5(cpbda)(bpa)(H2O)2]·1.5H2O}n (1), [Cd(H2cpbda)2(bpa)0.5(H2O)]n (2), were synthesized by using different solvent-systems. The complexes were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric analysis. Owing to the obvious structural difference between the two isomeric complexes, the further fluorescence sensing and dye selection and adsorption were investigated. The 3D tight stacking structure of 1 strengthened the fluorescence emission and the loose 2D layer structure of 2 generated the active selection and adsorption of the Malachite Green Oxalate (MGO) dye.

RESUMO

Palladium octahedra, truncated octahedra, cuboctahedra, truncated cubes, and nanocubes with sizes of tens of nanometers have been synthesized in an aqueous mixture of H2PdCl4 solution, cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) surfactant, KBr solution, dilute KI solution, and ascorbic acid solution at 35 °C for 30 min. By tuning the amount of dilute KBr solution introduced, particle shape control can be achieved. Adjusting the volumes of the Pd precursor and KBr solutions added, smaller and larger Pd nanocrystals were obtained with excellent shape control. Extensive structural and optical characterization of these nanocrystals has been performed. Two absorption bands in the ultraviolet region can be discerned for these Pd nanocrystals. Concave Pd cubes can also be prepared. Pd cubes were found to grow at a faster rate than that for the formation of octahedra. The concentrations of KBr and KI in the solution are so low that spectral shifts were not detected upon their addition to the solution. The Pd nanocrystals can readily be used for various applications after simple removal of surfactant.

RESUMO

Au-Cu2 O core-shell nanocubes, octahedra, and rhombic dodecahedra display facet-dependent optical properties. Furthermore, different-sized Au-Cu2 O octahedra with 58, 65, 68, and 73 nm octahedral gold cores clearly show a transition from the shell thickness-independent gold surface plasmon resonance band for octahedra with smaller gold cores to progressive red-shifts of the band with increasing shell thickness in octahedra with larger gold cores.

RESUMO

Using a portable gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC-MS), the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) pollution in each unit of the wastewater treatment system for vitamin C production was studied, and the species characteristics of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were analyzed and summarized. The results showed that 32 kinds of volatile organic compounds were identified, and the total mass concentration range of volatilizing VOCs was 0.9629-32.0970 mg x m(-3). The most species and the largest concentration (25 and 32.0970 mg x m(-3)) of volatilizing VOCs were found in grit chamber, which was located in the most front-end of the wastewater treatment system and was in semi-closed state. The proportion of molecular sulfide in the grit chamber was as high as 30.02%; Higher proportions of aromatic hydrocarbons were monitored in the subsequent processing units, with percentages of 21.06%-31.48%. The main types of VOCs monitored were chlorinated hydrocarbons and ketones, accounting for 6.39%-55.80% and 10.40%-58.08% of the total amount, respectively; 14 kinds of VOCs were detected in every unit of the wastewater treatment system: acetone, 2-butanone, n-hexane, chloroform, chlorobenzene etc, among which, vinyl chloride, styrene and 1,3-butadiene belong to the highly toxic substances. The vinyl chloride concentration exceeded the standard of "atmospheric pollutants emission standards" (GB 16297-1996), while 1,3-butadiene and other pollutants have no national standard limits. The results of this study provide a scientific basis for the revision of China's pharmaceutical wastewater VOCs emission standards.

RESUMO

A novel cyclometalation pathway to form CC-type palladacycles is reported. Unlike common donor-assisted cyclometalation, the NH(CO) auxiliary group undergoes a deprotonation step to form a palladalactam intermediate. The coordinating nitrogen atom functions as an intramolecular base promoting selective C-H bond cleavage. Without the NH proton, the ortho-N-phenyl C-H is activated instead.
